Fitting Out Your Ute for Trade

Ute Tool Boxes. Ute Storage Box.

In the world of trades and manual labour, having a well-equipped ute (utility vehicle) is basically essential for running an efficient business. Whether you’re a carpenter, plumber, electrician, or involved in any trade, organizing your tools and equipment is always important. Having those tools and equipment already organised in a vehicle means being ready at any time. All tradies should look at the practical aspects of fitting out their Ute company vehicle with essential accessories, including ute tool boxes, a ute drawer system, Ute tray racks, and ute roof racks.

Ute Tool Boxes

Ute tool boxes are essential for keeping your tools secure, organized, and easily accessible. They protect your valuable equipment from the elements and theft, ensuring that your tools are in optimal condition when you need them.

Considerations

  • Material: Look for robust materials like aluminium or steel for durability.
  • Locking Mechanism: Ensure that the ute tool boxes come with secure locking systems to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Weather Resistance: Look for weather-resistant features to protect your tools from rain, dust, and other environmental factors.

Installation

Tool boxes should be positioned strategically to maintain a balanced weight distribution. Installation must be secure to the ute tray in order to prevent movement during transportation.

Ute Drawer System

A ute drawer system adds an extra layer of organization, making it easier to access smaller tools and equipment without rummaging through a cluttered space.

Considerations:

  • Weight Capacity: Choose a drawer system with sufficient weight capacity for your tools and equipment.
  • Compartmentalisation: You will want to have tools sorted in groups. Some items, like multi-meters or test equipment, are delicate and will need to be kept separate from heavy tool and sharp edges.
  • Locking Mechanism: Drawers should have secure locks to prevent accidental opening during transit.

Installation:

Position the drawer system within easy reach of the tailgate, or in some place that allows for convenient access.
Proper installation should ensure that the drawers are securely fastened to prevent movement.

Ute Tray Rack:

Ute tray racks provide additional storage space above the tray, allowing you to transport longer items such as pipes, ladders, or timber. The ute tray rack is positioned slightly higher than the roof of the ute cabin. This allows the vehicle to carry items on the rack longer than the ute tray.

Considerations:

Material: Select racks made from sturdy materials to withstand the weight and dimensions of your load.
Adjustable Features: Look for racks with adjustable features to accommodate various load sizes.

Installation:

Install the tray rack securely, ensuring it is well-aligned with the ute’s dimensions.
Regularly check and tighten bolts to maintain stability.

Ute Roof Racks:

Ute roof racks are ideal for carrying bulky items like roof sheets, timber, or additional tools that may not fit within the tray.

Considerations:

Weight Capacity: Verify the weight capacity of the roof racks to ensure they can handle your intended load. Utes generally have a higher weight limit than an ordinary car; 100kg is probably about right. Check the owners guide for the specific vehicle.
The weight limit included the weight of the roof rack. So a light roof rack is an advantage.
Aerodynamics: Consider aerodynamic designs to minimize fuel consumption and wind resistance.

Installation:

We recommend a custom design roof rack installed by the manufacturer. This will give the best performance and load capacity for that particular model of vehicle.

Ute Tool Boxes

Fitting out your ute for trade means finding the right practical combination of tool boxes, drawer systems, and the right tray rack or roof rack. Prioritize durability, security, and ease of access when selecting and installing these accessories. A well-organized and equipped ute not only means being prepared for the job, it also contributes to the longevity of your tools and equipment
